A novel by Marc Archambault
A rising tide of regret and loneliness propelled Taylor Mackey out
of his dull Maryland life and into a teaching job in South Korea.
He enjoys his work at the Happy Ding-Dong Academy and has a great
friend in the alcoholic and unemployed Hyong-nim. His biggest problems
are his boss, the mercurial and mean-spirited Reuben, and the absence
of any romantic interests in his life. These collide when Taylor
meets So-young. So-young is sweet and beautiful, sassy and fluent in
English; she is also Reuben's concubine. The secretive romance that
develops challenges culture and convention and drives Reuben into a
dangerous rage. ROUNDEYE is a story of an outsider trying to understand
the inner mysteries of another people and another person. It's also a
story of regrets and how Taylor moves past them and into an appreciation
of what life has given, even as it takes it away.
